Paint Correction is the process of removing imperfections on the surface of your vehicle’s paint. This process is used to cosmetically improve the look of the vehicle and/or address a variety of issues like water spots, paint overspray, scratches/swirls, micro-marring, etching from bugs, or bird droppings, removing oxidation, and much more.
What do Paint Correction Services Involve?
Paint correction involves the process of mechanically leveling the clear coat of the paint to the point that it is free of defects that are etched into it.
Paint correction services typically include:
- Measurement of paint depths before, during, and after to ensure the safe preservation of paint/clearcoat
- Chemical decontamination wash
- Clay exfoliation/ physical decontamination
- Taping off/protecting sensitive surfaces such as trim and edging
- Removal of swirls, oxidation (fading), and surface scratches
- Gloss restoration to dull finishes
- Machine & hand polishing to remove minor defects
- Compounding (“buffing”) to remove deeper defects
- Jeweling (if elected/needed) to eliminate minor marring and enhance the overall depth of the gloss to reveal show car finish

How Long Does Paint Correction Take?
Service times for paint correction vary widely based on level of correction, vehicle type and severity of paint defects being addressed, products used, trim features, and more. Service times can vary from ~5 hours for a standard paint enhancement or 30 hours for advanced paint restoration work.
After decontamination and preparation, we at Final Approach Detailing complete a few test spots in order to determine which combination of products, pads, tools, and techniques will be used to achieve the best results. This is NOT a one-size-fits-all process. Each vehicle is different and paint types vary greatly between years, makes, or models.

This service level is reserved for vehicles requiring a complete paint transformation that includes wet-sanding to properly level paint defects before compounding, polishing and in some cases jeweling the paint to achieve the safest form of paint perfection outside of repaint/body work.
